Some of you may know that my advisor edits Qualitative Sociology. He also employs a managing editor, another graduate student. I filled in for her when she had to be away from Amherst a couple of summers ago (the summer of 2000, to be precise). She's now out on what for a grad student passes for maternity leave, and Bob is swamped & can't get out from under the administrative stuff. So he asked if I'd be willing to do some of that for $100. I said "sure." I admit to having ulterior motives: if he's too busy, he won't be able to read the draft of the paper that I'm going to be sending him tomorrow or the next day. That plus the extra $$ I pick up maintaining the departmental web page.... MMmmmmm..... Money.

No, people, we do not need MORE people running for President. While Clark may be a perfectly reasonable candidate (and I see no reason to think that he's not more reasonable than, say, Sharpton), TEN IS TOO MANY!

DNC, go yell at them. I fear that if the Democratic party gets too fractured (and, more to the point, the fundraising pool gets so diluted), even the best of candidates will not be able to counter the advantages that Bush has - ie, the advantage of being the incumbent and the advantage of being a stinking rich bastard with the financial support of other stinking rich bastards.
