Black Dress: Wearable

Got the side seams sewn, basting stitches pulled out, and sleeves put in in very little time tonight (let's see... half of "My Name is Earl", all of "Ugly Betty" and the first bit of "Grey's Anatomy" - which was a rerun of the season premiere... so probably about an hour). Mom pinged me for a video chat just as I was trying it on.

Just LOOK at the drape on the skirt! Wonderful... Also, I expect some perv on Flickr to comment on my ankles. C'mon, perv, my blocking finger is so ready for you...

I need to tack the neckline in place, otherwise it's going to slip and leave my boobs exposed. Also, I think it makes me look pretty much like a blimp (or pregnant, perish the thought) in this shot, because the body and the sleeve are blending together. In reality, it's a LITTLE big but not that much.
So the question for you, fair readers, is where should I hem it? I'm attempting to channel Stacey and Clinton on this one, and I think it should be at the knee or just above. It's certainly not going to be below the knee, because that's where it is right now before I've evened it up or turned it at all. And besides, I think that at the current length it's making my legs look really short despite the pointy-toed slingbacks. (Oh, how I love the pointy-toed slingbacks...)
I also want to re-stitch the shoulder seams (the join between the sleeve and the body) because it's lying lumpy. I think I'll sacrifice the stretch and use a straight seam - that worked for the back point; I'm sure it'll work here as well.
Time to hit KMart for another slip.
