sarahmichelefSo I left Pennsic and went to the airport to fly to the ASAs. Leaving is always weird - I nearly called a TSA guy m'lord, started to feel a bit claustrophobic in the very light and airy Pittsburgh airport, etc. So I got to my gate and had booted up the computer to start writing an LJ entry about Pennsic when a guy came by wearing a t-shirt that said Vivat Trimaris on it. I looked at him and said, "I know where you're coing from." He looked at me quizically and said, "You do?" I said, "Yeah, I'm coming from there too." And he sat down and we chatted for until our plane came.
So this very tired and fairly scruffy-looking red-headed guy sits down across from me and we start chatting. He tells me that he got into the Pennsic Independent because he was at the Mardi Gras party and was handing out beads and when he ran out somebody asked what he was going to do about beads. He then had them feel his beaded doublet and commented that he was studded for her pleasure, which made it into the paper. The reason this is funny will become apparent in a minute. I told him about Liam mentioning Matatias in his story about the Ansteorran tourney.
We chatted a little more and he tells me about how people in his area of Pennsic play foppy hat golf, where they take foppy hats and make holes where the end goal is getting the foppy hat into the fire in each camp. His camp was the five hole and he said that his Queen liked to make herself an obstacle on the course, in this instance by standing there in the dark and shining a flashlight on her face when the players got close. This should have started to tip me off...
So the conversation continues and eventually he says "I'm Odo, the King of Trimaris." BOGGLE I felt like a total dork and said, "That's why you look familiar!" We chatted for a while longer about various funny thingst hat had happened to each of us at War, the he told me about some of the difficulties & benefits of being royalty, and I discovered that I have a very similar approach to status and stuff within the Society that he does. And then the plane came and we got on and in Atlanta each headed on our way...
