I haven't been paying superclose attention to AI this season, but I just have this to say about tonight's results:

I started watching Idol again this season and I had a feeling that Melinda was going to go tonight, so I didn't watch the results show.

I blame the fact that Americans don't know shit about singing.

Melinda is better off in third place, anyway. She did well enough to get her career on the road, without being saddled with as much American Idol baggage.

In the end, it comes down to how well folks find their niche. Melinda is an incredibly talented vocalist/performer, and she'll do well if she makes good choices. If she makes poor choices, she'll do a professional job of singing schlock just like so many other American Idol folks. I'm interested to learn what kinds of stuff she actually wants to sing, though. :)

I think Melinda is incapable of singing schlock. She even made me like that country music song!

She seems most comfortable in the Tina Turner kind of mode. At which she, quite frankly, rocks.

And yes, she's going to do just fine for herself. And I like Blake, I really do. In terms of pure musical creativity, he's doing a lot. But as Simon is so fond of saying, "This is a singing competition." And DAMN that girl can sing.

At this point, Jordin's going to win. More's the pity. She has a lovely voice, but I fear that she's inclined towards schlock (as I indicated in my response to g_m_s).

Melinda made me like that Bon Jovi song. (disclaimer: I actually LIKE Bon Jovi. I just didn't like that song and therefore didn't buy that album)

I didn't know that country song she did, but I thought she rocked that, too.
