My Movie List

[11/06 Update: Some reviews, and tell me things I should add!  I bought Closer and Rent last weekend, and we picked up Good Night and Good Luck recently as well, so hopefully I'll see those sometime soon.]

[ETA: cut because it's really freaking long!]

Same as my reading list, only for movies. Much more random, as well, since I'm just adding titles as they occur to me. Again, recs are happily accepted. These are things that would be in my NetFlix queue if I had a NetFlix subscription and if it included first-run movies.

  • A Beautiful Mind (I keep seeing snippets of it on TV, but never the whole thing all the way through)
  • Adaptation
  • Ali
  • Batman Begins
  • Best in Show
  • Bobby
  • Bowling for Columbine
  • Bridge over the River Kwai
  • Brokeback Mountain
  • Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (saw the first half on AMC, but then M decided to change the channel to watch Las Vegas instead.  WTF?)
  • Capote
  • Casablanca
  • Casino Royale
  • Chicken Run
  • Closer
  • Corpse Bride
  • Crash
  • Erin Brokovich
  • Fahrenheit 911
  • For Your Consideration
  • Finding Neverland
  • Good Night, and Good Luck
  • House of Sand and Fog
  • Howl's Moving Castle
  • Kill Bill v.1 & 2
  • King Kong (both versions)
  • Kinsey
  • Man of the Year
  • March of the Penguins
  • Memoirs of a Geisha (I loved the book & have no expectations of the movie being anything like it, which from everything I've heard, it isn't.)
  • Monster
  • Monster's Ball
  • Nacho Libre
  • Napoleon Dynamite
  • Network
  • Pirates of the Caribbean II
  • Pirates of the Caribbean III
  • Planet of the Apes (both versions)
  • Prairie Home Companion
  • Proof
  • Ray
  • Rent
  • Serenity (oh, the shame... I have not yet seen this... I need to turn in my Joss Whedon fangirl credentials)
  • Snow Falling on Cedars (another favorite book)
  • Stranger than Fiction
  • Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny
  • The Chronicles of Narnia
  • The DaVinci Code
  • The Doors
  • The Ice Storm
  • The Libertine
  • The Maltese Falcon
  • The Pianist
  • Thelma & Louise
  • TransAmerica
  • V for Vendetta (read a really interesting review of it in the Feb. 2006 issue of Vanity Fair while I was at the gym today)
  • Wallace & Grommit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit
  • Walk the Line
  • Wet Hot American Summer (rec from [profile] greydora)
And the things I've seen but want to watch again (compulsive fangirl re-watching like I do with things like HP and LOTR and StarWars doesn't count):
  • Dr. Strangelove
  • The World According to Garp
  • My Left Foot
  • Boogie Nights (like many movies that came to SUMO my junior year, I haven't seen the last 20 minutes or so of it - because I had to leave to go open the theater for Chelsea)
  • Gone With the Wind (M's never seen it and he should)
  • Fast Times at Ridgemont High
  • Sling Blade (another one I missed the end of because of Chelsea)
  • Gosford Park
  • Driving Miss Daisy
  • Taxi Driver

Aha, someone else who reads Vanity Fair! It's been my literary crack for over ten years now - gossipy, yes, but well written, always interesting, and frequently very funny. And the editor, Graydon Carter, is one of the very people who's been out there beating the drums about what catastrophe the Bush administration has been from Day One.

As for movies...Brokeback Mountain was tragic and beautiful, and Gone With The Wind is a great movie from a mediocre book. And my "watch 'em till my eyes turn square films," you ask? James Bond, especially the ones with Connery, Dalton, and Brosnan.

A few tips:

Brokeback Mountain should be number one on your list and, where the hell is Wet Hot American Summer? It's the greatest movie of all time. fer serious.

Did you miss this?
Much more random, as well, since I'm just adding titles as they occur to me.

Brokeback is very, very high on the list. But I'm not about to try to drag TRex to a movie, and we're already scrambling to find a sitter for her for one morning when daycare is on spring break but Canisius isn't.
