The extra metro pass is TOTALLY worth it.

M and I were talking yesterday and we realized that WE CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME WE PUT GAS IN THE CAR.  I knew it was around the time I got the car inspected (at the beginning of the month) and just now I remembered that M did it on the 2nd.  We're going to have to fill it up again soon, but since one tank of gas costs just slightly less than a month's metro pass, financially, we are coming out WAY ahead.

Allow me to be a bit more specific...
Driving one (13 mile) round trip downtown per day, we were filling up (call it $45 per tank) about every 10 days, so $135/month on gas.
Driving one (3 mile) round trip to the park-n-ride per day, we are filling up about every 20 days, so call it about $60/month on gas plus $55 for the monthly transit pass.  Quantifiable savings of about twenty bucks, plus not spewing as much crap into the atmosphere, the enjoyment of traveling to and from work/school as a family, and more Magic Tree House book-reading than you can shake a stick at.  (We have GOT to get to the library tomorrow... I don't think I can take another time through Season of the Sandstorms.)

Yeah, I'm cool with that decision.

If only we had that choice too...unfortunately, busing doesn't come out to the country. Great deal for you all though.
