The extra metro pass is TOTALLY worth it.
Sep. 19th, 2008 12:07 pmM and I were talking yesterday and we realized that WE CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME WE PUT GAS IN THE CAR. I knew it was around the time I got the car inspected (at the beginning of the month) and just now I remembered that M did it on the 2nd. We're going to have to fill it up again soon, but since one tank of gas costs just slightly less than a month's metro pass, financially, we are coming out WAY ahead.
Allow me to be a bit more specific...
Driving one (13 mile) round trip downtown per day, we were filling up (call it $45 per tank) about every 10 days, so $135/month on gas.
Driving one (3 mile) round trip to the park-n-ride per day, we are filling up about every 20 days, so call it about $60/month on gas plus $55 for the monthly transit pass. Quantifiable savings of about twenty bucks, plus not spewing as much crap into the atmosphere, the enjoyment of traveling to and from work/school as a family, and more Magic Tree House book-reading than you can shake a stick at. (We have GOT to get to the library tomorrow... I don't think I can take another time through Season of the Sandstorms.)
Yeah, I'm cool with that decision.
