I have now caught the premiere of CBS's new show Flashpoint twice.  More to the point, I have seen portions of it twice and now actually managed to see the whole thing.

This is a pretty good show.  It's Canadian - they don't even try to hide it - they call the police officers "constable" and everything (hell, there's a panorama shot where you go, oh, hello downtown Toronto with your fancy CN tower...).  And it's suspenseful.  I mean, at it's heart it's a cop show and it's going to be about cases and about the relationships on the team and about how being a cop affects the lives of the guys on the team.

But the premiere also about gave me a heart attack at the climactic moment (the first time I saw it) and made me a little queasy in sympathy with the protagonist.  So hey, points for that.

Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Let's see...
Sex and the City )

Taylor's on Today right now... the stupid first single is growing on me. And T is cute.

One advantage of Buffalo )

There was something else I was going to post about, but I don't remember what it was.

Our favorite hobby )

National Spelling Bee on tv tonight! In hi-def! I foresee flipping between that and the Sabres/Hurricanes game.

our other hobby )

Have I mentioned that I'm old? I have what I believe to be arthritis in my left freaking index finger (my paternal grandmother and my dad's sister both got arthritis pretty young). And today the 2 Advil I took with breakfast aren't really doing much beyond taking the edge off.

I spam because I love, seriously. But I'm watching Roseanne (a guilty pleasure) and not only does this episode feature Gelnn Quinn as Mark (Becky's husband), it also has Danny Masterson (aka, Hyde from That 70s Show) as Darlene's new boyfriend Jimmy. And M's ninja-like voice-recognition powers are rubbing off on me - because 17-year-old DM looks nothing like 29-year-old DM. But DAMN!

I'm not sure exactly when That 70s Show jumped the shark (probably about when Eric and Donna got engaged), but last night one of my favorite episodes EVER was on, the one that reminded me that when that show was really firing on all cylinders, it was HILARIOUS. The episode being, of course, the one where Bob sends Donna to Catholic school, which I have since learned was entitled "I Can't Quit You Babe". Because really, you can't have too many Catholic schoolgirl jokes in one episode.

Incidentally, the last episode, which I will freely admit to watching, was pretty good. Eric and Kelso came back (if the show didn't jump the shark when he & Donna got engaged, it DEFINITELY did when Topher Grace the Ashton Kutcher left), it was New Year's Eve 1979. The show ended with Eric saying "Last one upstairs has to call Red a dumbass." Everyone scrambles to get up the stairs; Kelso loses. The last action you see is Kelso grabbing the "stupid helmet" as he runs up the stairs and then you hear everyone counting down to the New Year. I thought it was quite appropriate.

Wow...

I cannot believe that Taylor actually won. Hoo-freaking-ray!

They've found another American Idol - and another one, like Ruben and Fantasia (and, to a lesser extent, Carrie), who will not be likely to be showing up on the Top-40 charts.

Oooh, and now the sucky first single. Yay!

ummm...

OK, the golden idols are DUMB. But when did Clay Aiken get so ... suave?

Ha! Meatloaf and Katharine! Funny. Also, David Boreanaz' kid is way cute.

Well, if there's any justice in the world, Taylor Hicks will be the next American Idol. Shockingly, my two favorites of the last group were actually the ones in the finals, but Katharine, adorable and talented as she is, is just plain boring next to Taylor.

And why, oh WHY do the songs that they give them for their first singles have to SUCK? And why, oh WHY didn't Taylor reprise his "You Are So Beautiful" from last week? (For that matter, why can't he release THAT as his first single?)
sarahmichelef: (Default)
Missed the first half hour of AI... but DAMN Taylor's "You are So Beautiful" was haunting & mesmerizing. And Simon's picked him to win it all. During the audition shows, I loved him but I never thought he'd get enough votes to make it this far. I definitely like him best of the remaining three... I am still befuddled by Elliot. Paula keeps saying he's a funky white boy, but he's just BORING!

As [livejournal.com profile] baronessmartha alluded to, she and I snarked the entire two hours of Grey's Anatomy via IM. The theme was "emotional retardation" and I promise I'll post the highlights of our bitchiness later, after I grade six more final exams.

Who is the actress that plays President Santos' secretary? Where do I recognize her from? Somebody here is bound to know...
sarahmichelef: (OMG!)
David Blaine is one crazy dude. The funny part is that he really REALLY reminds me of my cousin for some reason that I just can't quite put my finger on.

Also, can we STOP with the F5N1 fearmongering now? I'm so over it...

Cutty: House, what is this?
House (escorting Foreman's dad into the room): Not what, who. They can even vote now.

And I just realized that Foreman's name is Eric Foreman. Like the main character of That 70s Show. How weird is THAT?

Sent in the book review at *checks sent mail folder* 2 this afternoon. Am mostly ready for class tomorrow, too. I might actually get to grade the makeup exam that's been sitting on my desktop for a week later on this evening. And take a shower and get to bed at a decent hour. Novel concept, eh? I also got at least the "when I'm doing what" part of my summer syllabus fleshed out (which might be a moot point if more folks don't enroll... I've only got 4 so far).

And also - thank GOODNESS Kellie finally got booted off the American Idol island.

And also also - I think I have an ear infection. I was going to go to the after-hours clinic tonight but decided that it didn't hurt that bad (it's worst when air pressure changes) especially if I take some Advil every so often and I have enough else to do that I didn't want to go sit on my ass there for several hours. *looks at baronessmartha* Am I correct in thinking they wouldn't do anything for a mild ear infection in an adult anyway?

OMGWTF?

I confess... I watch American Idol. And what the HELL? ACE getting voted off? After how badly Kellie MESSED UP last night?

Oh well... at least Catharine is still safe. She's cute, she can sing, and she looks kinda like Catharine Zeta Jones.

Since my spring break is going to consist of a trip to OK and then working for the rest of the week trying to get ahead on teaching stuff and prepping my course for the summer, I've declared tonight to be Spring Break Preview, and I'm going to not do any academic work once I pick up TRex from daycare. Instead, I'm going to do some sewing, which I haven't done in a very long time (not counting the veil that I've been taking to textile guild for 2 months to work on the hem). Maybe I'll manage to finish my hoods. And then I'm going to watch Numb3rs.

It's an exciting life I lead.

The top howevermany people they've kept in American Idol so far are very skewed towards the south this year. Is it the Bo Bice influence? The Carrie Underwood influence? Who knows. Right now my favorites are Lisa and Taylor. Because how can you resist a white guy with totally gray hair singing the blues?
sarahmichelef: (Default)
Hee! )
Didn't make good use of my long weekend to get ahead in my lecture prep. Of course, since TRex is home from daycare on Mondays anyway, it's not like the weekend was really any different than usual for me.
