I'm not sure what it's a sign OF, but my UMass mailbox blew quota this morning. I'm notoriously bad about deleting things and I only get 30 mb and my students this semester are e-mailing me a lot of stuff... It's not as bad as when I was getting 500-page book manuscripts as attachments, but there were a lot of powerpoint files sitting in my inbox.

It's better now, though. Offloaded all course-related e-mails to my hard drive, deleted a TON of stuff, downloaded pictures of [livejournal.com profile] peregrinning and [livejournal.com profile] a_c_fiorucci's kid and the ones that [livejournal.com profile] sprirtwolf sent me after passover and the ones of my friend Kara's wedding and the ones of my friends V&B's kids... You get the idea. The stuff, it adds up.

(Which reminds me that one of my projects for tomorrow needs to be backing up the new computer.)

Went to the gym for the first time in nearly a month today. That was lovely. Came home, found that the copy of Happiest Toddler on the Block we ordered had arrived. Soon I will speak neanderthal.

And so on... Our potential playdate for Saturday fell through, but we have the MoD walk on Sunday to look forward to, and the weather's supposed to not suck (60 and partly cloudy is the latest I've heard).

Thank goodness tomorrow's Friday.

Sent in the book review at *checks sent mail folder* 2 this afternoon. Am mostly ready for class tomorrow, too. I might actually get to grade the makeup exam that's been sitting on my desktop for a week later on this evening. And take a shower and get to bed at a decent hour. Novel concept, eh? I also got at least the "when I'm doing what" part of my summer syllabus fleshed out (which might be a moot point if more folks don't enroll... I've only got 4 so far).

And also - thank GOODNESS Kellie finally got booted off the American Idol island.

And also also - I think I have an ear infection. I was going to go to the after-hours clinic tonight but decided that it didn't hurt that bad (it's worst when air pressure changes) especially if I take some Advil every so often and I have enough else to do that I didn't want to go sit on my ass there for several hours. *looks at baronessmartha* Am I correct in thinking they wouldn't do anything for a mild ear infection in an adult anyway?

Has 'blogging completely taken over my brain? I'm realizing that I don't write in plain text anymore... I write in hypertext. I know that David is going to do the html markup of my review for publication at RCCS, but I can't keep myself from inserting some of my own links, just because that's how I think now.

It's like back in the day (oh, how I hate it when students use that phrase), when Trevor was reading the New Hacker's Dictionary and tried to "click" on some text that he wanted to follow up on. We pointed out to him that it was a book and that books weren't hypertextual.

This needs to be explored further, probably on How Very Meta once my brain is able to think about anything but this book review.

*back under the pile*

Some of you may know that my advisor edits Qualitative Sociology. He also employs a managing editor, another graduate student. I filled in for her when she had to be away from Amherst a couple of summers ago (the summer of 2000, to be precise). She's now out on what for a grad student passes for maternity leave, and Bob is swamped & can't get out from under the administrative stuff. So he asked if I'd be willing to do some of that for $100. I said "sure." I admit to having ulterior motives: if he's too busy, he won't be able to read the draft of the paper that I'm going to be sending him tomorrow or the next day. That plus the extra $$ I pick up maintaining the departmental web page.... MMmmmmm..... Money.
