  1. Go to Pop Culture Madness and select the year you became 18.
  2. Paste the list of the top 75 songs.
  3. Bold the ones you liked.
  4. Strike the ones you disliked.
  5. Italicize the ones you know but don't exactly like nor dislike.
  6. Keep the ones you don't know (or are neutral about) in common text.
(The flaw with this is I've probably FORGOTTEN the songs I don't remember.)

This video (which I also linked to in comments elsewhere) is super-cool -- gives a good sense of Casino Royale but without giving away too much plot.  I really really do like the song.

Techno Tim Gunn (featuring Santino Rice)

Mildly NSFW, but if you have headphones you're fine.

Designers, rock the Casbah.

Whatthe?

To continue in the BNL vein:
What on EARTH is "Pinch Me" doing in my "ShinyHappyPlaylist"? I must have been smoking something when I did that...

So M and I have been having a debate. What exactly is the plot of The Barenaked Ladies' "The Old Apartment"?

Tell me what you think.

Haha!

So I saw Corinne Bailey Rae on Good Morning, America earlier this week and found myself wondering if she was on iTMS.

Not only is she on iTMS, her debut single was one of the free downloads three weeks ago. Of course it was. Because any handlers who are getting her on GMA and Regis & Kelly on the same day are going to get her as one of the free iTunes downloads. They're not dumb, Corinne Bailey Rae's handlers.

The song is cute... catchy but not something that's going to insinuate itself into your brain and not let go.

So my favorite radio station here in Buffalo is Jack FM. This makes me feel old, but it also amuses the hell out of me, because you get playlists like the ones that accompanied me to campus this morning:

  • Bon Jovi - Shot thru the Heart
  • Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
  • Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper

Yes, this is why I call it "karaoke radio". And you can get the playlist online, too.

buh?

Well, whatever hinkiness had infected my iSight seems to have healed itself. Clearly the computer just needed a nap. So I have before me an exciting evening of data transferring. If I'm really, really clever I'll manage to get everything set up such that I can actually use the new machine on campus tomorrow. How cool would that be?

Also, Terri Gross talking to the Beastie Boys is just too funny.

I'm clearly completely behind the times, but so what else is new? Anyway, on Friday somehow M came across reference to this new reggae artist named Matisiyahu.* He's a Lubovitch Hasid (although he wasn't raised as such) - one of the most conservative Jewish sects. He's also the artist behind the scond-most downloaded album on iTMS today. We picked up a live recording - "Live at Stubb's" - over the weekend and it's amazing. It's reggae... but it's partially in Hebrew... and it's about religion.

I highly recommend it.

Seriously.

*Just to add to our amusement, Matisiyahu (or, as he pronounces it, Matatiahu - the weirdnesses of transliteration) is M's Hebrew name.

odd...

Has anybody else noticed that the iTMS free songs of the week tend towards country? This week there's Dolly Parton's Oscar-nominated song from TransAmerica.

Today M and I went to a restaurant known as, I kid you not, The Indian Diner. Their lunch buffet was ok, but nothing to write home about. Then we went across the street to look at a furniture store (we're shopping for living room furniture). Found some stuff that we liked pretty well; we may end up going back there when we finally break down and buy. Anyway, after that we went to this crazy store called Tuesday Morning and were amused by the odd assortment of crap that they had. BUT we did find a 2-disc "Modern Rock Collection" from Time-Life Music. The track listing )
I think I'm in love.

Open iTunes/iPod or Windows Media Player to answer the following. Go to your library. Answer, no matter how embarrasing it is.

Because then I am reminded that Eminem is engaged in a concerted campaign to make me respect him. I hadn't heard the new song until this morning, and I really like it.

There was another reason I shouldn't be allowed to watch Vh1, but I don't remember what it was. Maybe because I'm consistently irritated by the Top 20 Countdown hosts (well, since they got rid of Aamer Haleem, who actually has a brain, and I have to say the new guy is a bazillion times better than *shudder* Rachel Perry).
