My Movie List

[11/06 Update: Some reviews, and tell me things I should add!  I bought Closer and Rent last weekend, and we picked up Good Night and Good Luck recently as well, so hopefully I'll see those sometime soon.]

[ETA: cut because it's really freaking long!]

And the things I've seen but want to watch again (compulsive fangirl re-watching like I do with things like HP and LOTR and StarWars doesn't count):

Movie Review: Casino Royale

With the advantage of built-in, ready-and-willing babysitters, M and I went out to (*gasp*) see a movie over the weekend.  We of course chose Casino Royale which we had both been looking forward to.Damn... now I really want to go see it again.

Movie Review: The DaVinci Code

I think I'm the only person on the PLANET who has not read the book.  As such, I went into the movie tabula rasa

two things

1) After talking to Henry at Apple, I'm going to take Eloisa to the Apple Store so that they can actually witness the problem rather than me trying to describe it over the phone. So that's what I'll be doing instead of working out. Joy. But at least I can go and fondle the technology.
1a) I was very annoyed that they didn't even boot up the machine and check if the problem was gone, and then I realized that I hadn't disabled the little application that masks the problem, so it's not entirely their fault that they didn't catch the failed repair. D'oh.
2) OMG Extreme Glee! Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.
3) Project Runway. Read more... )

Movie Reviews: Dead Man's Chest

On the off chance that somebody hasn't seen it yet...
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest )
And if Pirates III does not feature Keith Richards falling out of a coconut tree, I will be SORELY disappointed.

Also:

I'm such a pathetic dork that I really, really can't wait to see A Prairie Home Companion. I'm all aquiver about it. Robert Altman! Kevin Kline! Screenplay by Garrison Keillor! (If he wasn't involved, i wouldn't even be thinking about wanting to see it.) Woody Harrelson! (Jury's still out on the Lindsey Lohan bit...)

*squee*

I was attempting to explain why I want to see it so badly to M, but it just can't be explained. To me, Saturday night means PHC. It always has. The big excitement when they'd do free previews of the Disney Channel (before it was part of basic cable) was that we could watch PHC. I'm so sad that our NPR station here doesn't have it - Marian McPartland (one of my childhood idols) and Fiona Ritchie are great, but it's just not quite the same.

I'm showing Kinsey to my class tomorrow, so I watched it last night to know what I'm getting into. ;^)

Top Five All Time Movies

In honor of having watched HIgh Fidelity tonight, my Top Five All Time Movies I Could Watch Over and Over:

  1. High Fidelity
  2. Pump Up the Volume
  3. The Usual Suspects
  4. Heathers
  5. The Breakfast Club

In true Rob Gordon style, this started out as a 3-item list, then grew to six, and then got rearranged...

On a related note, why on earth don't I own the High Fidelity soundtrack, or any Tenacious D? Jack Black is a comic genius.

Movie Review: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Caveat: I have, in fact, never seen Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Sometime I'll have to rectify that situation.

I had been looking forward to this movie for YEARS - ever since I heard it was being made. Tim Burton! Johnny Depp! Danny Elfman! Roald Dahl! This should have been perfection. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of my all-time favorite kids' books.
amusing, but disappointing )
I did get to see the Goblet of Fire teaser on the big screen for the first time (chills...) and the preview for Corpse Bride. That looks wonderful... please, Tim, don't disappoint me two movies in a row!
