You MUST actually go to Flickr to see this picture. Clickyclicky. Marvel at the texture of the onion. Seriously.

Now you post a picture of yourself in the comments, and repost to your own journal if you wanna play.

(ETA: What a fun way to get pictures of friends! *giggle*)

Remember to pack the shoulder strap for the laptop sleeve next time.  It's hard to carry the computer and a big pile of books.

I am confident that I am a reasonably intelligent person.  And yet, The Beast (aka, our snowblower) continually outwits me.  There are just too damn many steps to getting the thing running!  So, for y'all's amusement and my own records (if I write it down, maybe I'll actually remember them all), here's the process:
  1. Get The Beast out of the garage.
  2. Put in the key.
  3. Check & top off gas.
  4. Put in drive pin.
  5. Turn it on.
  6. Turn knob to "choke".
  7. Prime it.
  8. Start it.
  9. Wait.
  10. Turn knob to "drive".
  11. Blow snow.
My problem is doing all of the things between 2 and 6.  They don't actually have to be done in any particular order, but the thing won't start in drive, it won't start if it's not turned on, and it's next to impossible to steer if you don't put the drive pin in (which can be done after it's started, but it's harder).

Everyone knows that I'm a huge Project Runway fan.  it's not just that I want to be Tim Gunn's fag hag (though I do), it's not just the drama of a reality show.  It's the fashion.  For a very long time I wanted to be a fashion designer.  I think I've mentioned here before that I find myself tempted by the Fashion and Textile Technology degree at Buffalo State.

But that's not my point.  My point is, I have no signature style.  In high school, I did the early-90's grunge/hippie look.  Doc Martens, broomstick skirts, tie-dye, bodysuits, the whole nine.  Then I went to college and my "style" came to be whatever was clean with a tendency towards black turtlenecks and jeans.  Ditto for grad school.

But now I'm a grownup.  I don't feel like I dress like a grownup... I'm pretty much still in the t-shirt and jeans world, and I'd like to look better.  I'd like to think that I gravitate towards the classic/preppy with a bit of a twist - whether that twist is in the colors, in the jewelry, in the footwear.  In many ways I'm inspired by the creativity I see in the Wardrobe Remix Flickr group, even though it's not my style.

If you combine this desire to actually have a signature style with my intention to drop 20ish pounds, well, it's a bit of serendipity.  I'm going to have to go shopping... I've actually already started going shopping.  I got a pair of summerweight khaki slacks (just below waist, boot cut), a sleeveless, empire-waisted silk top (this one), and a long-sleeved, empire-waisted beige knit top at Old Navy the other day.  And a scoop-neck black cap-sleeved t-shirt, a bright aqua knit 3/4 button-down, and a bright cherry red turtleneck at Express.  (Also a red and silver tank top...  yay for shinyfun.)  (Total cost for all of this stuff plus a coat for M and some stuff for TRex: under $70.  Love clearance sales.)  And then there's my new purse (which [personal profile] ellid and [personal profile] baronessmartha may remember me buying) - bright avocado green... it's got personality to spare.

Anyway, today I was actually kinda pleased with my outfit...  Grey striped pants, a hot pink t-shirt and a bright apple green half-zip sweater.  Purple and silver beaded drop earrings and my not-too-ugly warm boots.  So I'm going to keep an eye out for great deals, simple basics, and things that fit me well.
