Thanks, Joss...
Mar. 25th, 2009 12:08 pm... for sucking me into another of your crazy universes. At first, I was skeptical. M put his finger on the early issues pretty well... there was SO MUCH context that we had to be introduced to that there was no time for Snappy Whedon Dialogue. We clocked it - it was something like 40 minutes into the second episode before we had a Whedon-esque line ("I have four brothers, and none of them are democrats"). But over the last three weeks, Dollhouse has gotten consistently better and better and now.... Well, sorry Flashpoint. You're charmingly Canadian, but when it comes down to it you are just another cop show.
One thing that's REALLY impressing me is Eliza Dushku. Not because of how she "becomes" whoever she is during an engagement because, no matter how much Topher rambles about how they are whole people, actives on engagement are stereotypes. No, it's in the subtleties of her performance as Echo when at the Dollhouse. In the very minute changes in how she responds to Topher after her "treatment" that let you know that it didn't work. I think it was in the third episode that I first noticed it... just a slight hesitation, slightly less flat inflection as she looked at him and asked, "Did I fall asleep?" that let you know that she had an inkling of what was going on. And that has continued, and gotten so much LESS subtle over the last couple of episodes.
In short, Joss Whedon ftw. Again. Thank goodness.

Holy moly...
Mar. 25th, 2009 10:06 pmTomorrow I shall be taking two bags of adult clothing, three-and-a-half bags of toys, half a bag of opened packages of pull ups, and a box of children's books to the salvation army store.
I am starting to be able to see the floor of my sewing room again. HOORAY!
relentlesstoil just dubbed me the Purger of Many Objects. I shall wear my title like a mantle.
