Pipe Dreams
May. 4th, 2009 01:56 pm When I was out for a walk last week, after I was done pondering the neighborhood architecture, I found myself imagining what I would do with our house given infinite time and money (but assuming that we had to stay in this house). This is the wild fantasy stuff, not the "I swear I'm re-doing the kitchen in 10 years".
Thing #1: Solar panels
We are REALLY sunny for about 6 months of the year. I think that during those 6 months, we could probably give back to the grid. The other 6 months of the year... not so much.
Thing #2: Skylights in the sewing room.
It doesn't have any attic or crawlspace above it, I don't think. And it would make it soooo bright, and would make the ceiling seem less low, too.
Thing #3: Patio and living roof on top of the garage
Totally the fault of this month's National Geographic, which has an article about living roofs. It's a 2-car garage's worth of space! We could TOTALLY have a little sitting area and a garden up there.
