I started reading Charlie Wilson's War this summer and haven't yet finished it. I've decided that I'm not going to.
It's not that I haven't enjoyed the book. I have. I know far more now about the how the CIA works, more than I ever had any inkling of about the war between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan. But... I know how it ends. The mujahiddin win. We leave. The Taliban comes to power. The antics of a wacky Democratic Congressman from Texas can only amuse me for so long. And it's time to move on to other things.
If you're going to get through it in less than 6 months, I recommend the book. But I keep losing my place, and when I have a lot of trouble finding it again, it means it's time to throw in the towel on a book.
I may well end up seeing the movie, though. If you're going to get through it in less than 6 months, I recommend the book. But I keep losing my place, and when I have a lot of trouble finding it again, it means it's time to throw in the towel on a book.
