Flylady stuff...

A couple of times recently folks have asked me if I'm still following the flylady plan. The short answer is, "Not really."* But MAN I'm surprised we're not in hell thanks to all my good intentions. See, my PLAN was to use this summer to get the three of us (yes, including TRex - she has chores that she's expected to help out with and she gets paid for doing so) to a point where doing basic home cleaning maintenance was on autopilot so that when the semester started, it wouldn't be an issue.
Yeah, right. You can guess how well THAT worked. (As an aside, I am befuddled as to where exactly the summer went. Wasn't I at preschool family breakfast, I don't know, yesterday?)
For those who don't know, the basics of the Flylady system goes like this:
Several months ago I realized that the "zones" bit of FlyLady just doesn't work for me. What I want from the system is the ability to keep our house reasonably neat & clean on a day-to-day basis. And so rather than filling up my CJ with stuff I wasn't ever going to look at I made a week's worth of quick-and-dirty hosuehold task lists. But they never really got used. The only bits of the CJ that ever got looked at were the sections for planning our weekly menus and the shopping lists.
So anyway. Yesterday I figured it's a new semester, might as well try to get things rolling now instead of slacking it again. I pulled out those handwritten pages in their clear sheet covers (that's one thing that I really like - you can use overhead markers on plastic page covers and wipe them clean, thus saving paper and printing time, hooray!), updated them for the week, and moved them to the front of the binder. In doing so, I realized there were things that needed to be added so instead of just putting those changes on the existing pages I spent 15 minutes with pages laying out a new mini-control-journal, which I will share with you right now (PDF file). And yesterday at least, we got all of the things on the list done. TRex LOVES watering plants (especially the ones in her room) and dusting, so that helped a lot. Today's weekly task might not get done, as textile guild is here tonight, so I won't be vacuuming after dinner. Perhaps TRex and I will do it tomorrow morning.
So there you have it. Where I'm at, flylady-wise.
*It BAFFLES me that you people are interested in me blathering about my attempts to keep us from descending into complete slovenliness.

For those who don't know, the basics of the Flylady system goes like this:
- Do a little bit at a time - don't try to tackle years' worth of clutter/bad habits all at once.
- Something is better than nothing.
- Develop routines - she reccomends morning, afternoon, and evening ones.
- Focus on one "zone" of the house at a time.
- Each week do a "home blessing hour" plus some zone work, plus maybe one of the special "missions" (which are related to the zone that flylady is working in at any given time).
