Review: Bones

I've been watching the previews for this new TV season and thinking that Tuesdays are going to be hard for me. I've recently become quite addicted to House, which is at the same time as Commander in Chief, which I also want to see. But that's beside the point. The point is, there's a new show on Fox called Bones that probably wouldn't have caught my attention all that much except that it features David Boreanaz. OK, and a show about a forensic anthropologist could be cool, but that wouldn't have been enough to suck me in.
I went into it thinking that my biggest problem would be seeing David as anything other than Angel. I was wrong, though. I'm not 100% sucked in by his performance, but I'm nto constantly thinking, "Why is Angel playing an FBI agent?" I was moderately amused by the show, but not completly engrossed. Part of it was Emily Deschanel's performance... she's just ... not that good. I'm not convinced by her - the pathos isn't there, the intelligence of the character isn't there. What I think is supposed to be an emotional disconnect becomes just a flat, boring performance. The writing started out awkward and stilted and got a little better as it went along.
We'll have to see how it shapes up. It could be a real clunker, or it could end up hitting its stride and be very entertaining. Unfortunately, I'm expecting it to be the former.

Heh. Maybe Commander in Chief will be lousy, too and I won't have to resort to taping either it or House.
