M has a non-league raquetball match tonight...with the league coordinator, becasue the guy wants to assess the skill level of people. We went out and bought him new court shoes the other day because he's been using his old ones to mow the lawn, which might not go so nicely with the court.

My FL got to play a role in class today - they read Lisa Nakamura's article "Interrogating the Digital Divide", and one of the main points that she makes is we need to look at how minorities are using the Internet for PRODUCTION rather than just CONSUMPTION in order to assess the impact of differential access and use patterns.  So I mentioned [livejournal.com profile] xayide79's posting about the offensive theme park & how the Internet plays into the discovery, the response, and the possibility of mobilization (one of the things that Nakamura mentions is the Internet-facilitated mobilization of the Asian-American community in respones to the horribly offensive A&F shirts that came out a couple of years ago), and then of course yesterday's flak about WoW.

But what you all really want to hear about is last night's Project Runway!  First off, there are SO MANY VERY SAD GIRLS out there who were somehow holding out hope that Daniel V. might be straight.  As if.  I, for one, will cling tightly to my faghag crush on Nick.  *adores*  Like everyone else, I nearly peed myself laughing at Santino's impressions of Tim - I think Tim was actually flattered in a way.  He certainly took it in good humor - I can't WAIT to listen to the podcast to hear what he has to say about it.

On to the dresses (not necessarily in any particular order)...
Daniel V.:  (why are we all still using the V. when Daniel F. has been out for ages?)  Brilliant, as always.  I loved everything about it.  I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that he's the best straight-up designer of women's clothing left.  Him or ...
Chloe:  This was another typical Chloe design, but it was LOVELY.  I can't believe that she pulled it off!  She and Daniel are designing the best women's wear of the sort that Banana Republic will actually market.  I think that she'll make the final 3.
Andrae:  Meh.  I see the topiary, but apparently he either didn't convey his vision well enough to the judges, or they didn't think that anybody would wear a topiary to a garden party.  Sorry, dude.  Have fun at Red Lobster with Tim.
Nick:  Sweetie.  My love.  You did NOT budget well!  This is two challenges in a row that I've been disappointed, honey!  But we'll forgive you becasue you're so damn adorable.  Michael Kors, however, needs to be bitch-slapped.  Just becasue you don't like something, my dear, does not necessarily make it vulgar.  Please eliminate that word from your vocabulary.
Kara:  Nice.  I didn't think she was going to pull it off, but she did.  I'm with [livejournal.com profile] insidian about the LOOK!  BOOBS! aspect of it, but she made really good use of different plant textures and made a really nice dress.
Santino:  The impressions went a long way to redeem him.  If he'd just do Tim all the time, he'd be a lot less annoying.  And I concur that he's just not making CLOTHES, but I really liked this dress!  But then you think about some of the work that my Laurel has done (including TRex's Halloween costume), and suddenly you think that I might be more amenable to wearable art than the average viewer.  (Bonus points to anyone who can find [livejournal.com profile] master_mr in those terrifically old pictures!).

So, prediction time.  My final 3 are Daniel, Chloe, and Nick.  Either Chloe or Nick could screw it up, though, or the producers could decide they want personality (has anyone else noticed in the credits where it says that the judges make their decisions based on their scores and input from the producers?), in which case Santino makes it in.    In either case, Kara's out next time.  My money's on Daniel to win it all.

And now I'm off for the rest of my madcap Thursday (gym, quick stop at home, doctor, pick up TRex...).  Tomorrow is Friday and thus DISSERTATION DAY!  Whoo.[Unknown site tag]

Yay! I'm famous.

[livejournal.com profile] blackfolk is also a good example. It is a social community for the most part, but some members have also organized letter, email, and phone campaigns to protest various issues.

I think it will be Dan, Chloe and Santino. As much as I want Kara to go home (she's so nice, and so not high fashion) they let Wendy in last time, and she was by far the weakest of the designers. *sigh* I fear for Chloe. I think she should be in, but I sense a twist of fate. Also, what was up with dissing Nick? I actually really liked that dress.

Okay, here's my conspiracy theory: the producers are pulling for Daniel to win. Why? Because that atrocious tulip-looking "thing" he produced for the inspiration challenge last week was one of the ugliest things I think I've ever seen come down a runway. And, it didn't remind me at all of orchids. Tulip, yes. Orchid, no. Very different flowers, Daniel! Andrae, who is now gone, was flat-out ROBBED of the win in that competition. His gown was gorgeous and it perfectly matched his inspiration photo. Oh well. This week he was by far the garden party pooper though, so that is that. I agreed with that decision, but again, not sure why Daniel won! His dress had an awkward unfinished look to it at the shoulder straps. The plain white straps just didn't look asthetically 'right' to me, with the bright blue flowers laid out assymetrically across the bosum. IMO, Kara did a better job than he did and should have won that competition. So, that's why I think it's a conspiracy by the producers -- two Daniel wins in a row that could arguably have gone to others and probably *should* have gone to others. Of course, this is all just one person's opinion. Please don't shoot me for disagreeing if that's the case (that we disagree)!

And yes, I was très disappointed to find out he was for-sure gay. I don't know why it would make ONE LICK OF DIFFERENCE TO ME, but there you have it. I guess I just have a crush on his angular, expressive face and for once, it would be nice for a male designer to actually be attracted to the bodies he designs for, simply because it's a novelty.... but that's a whole other kettle o' fish.
