Decided to try out a new conditioner! I'd been using the Suave Awapuhi conditioner, but they apparently just re-configured their entire line of salon-knockoff products (a change that isn't even reflected on their site yet!). So there was no Awapuhi to be had. Instead I opted for a knockoff of Redken's Fresh Curls Conditioner.

First impression: it smells like aftershave. Very disconcerting to have my head smelling like an old man's face, but I suppose I'll get used to it.
Second impression (post-shower, before bed): as it was drying, the front my hair looked kinda flattish. I worried that it was not going to do anything to enhance my curls.
Third impression (first look in the mirror this morning): Hello, curls! Curls everywhere! Glee!

So I'll happily live with the aftershave smell if I consistently get this much curl.

I do need another trim, though.

Interesting! I wonder how it works? I wonder what it does to hair like mine, that is kind of wavy, but pretty straight (except for the ends) now that it's so long and heavy.

I think most of the curl-enhancing stuff relies on the evaporation of alcohol to lift the hair.

That explains why I have been finding their other conditioners on sale for $1.79, I have stocked up. Oh yes I have.

Yeah, I'm kind of sad that I can't get the awapuhi anymore. *shrug* This stuff is rockin', though.

Ooh, I'm almost out of conditioner and I've been trying to find a better brand Suave knock-off for my hair...

You should totally become a Curly Girl! I'd try to convince M, but that's a lost cause. I have, however, converted his brother to the ways of no shampoo & no brushes or combs.

I haven't read the book, but I've gone through much of the website (though rather little of it is relevant to short-haired curly boys). I'm not quite shampoo-free (I still use gel, and conditioner doesn't get all the residue out), but I've cut way back and it helps a lot.

If you use clear aloe as gel there is less residue.

that sounds similiar to what they recommend for those with really long hair.
