You know... the ones dragging the property values down because they haven't mowed their lawns in months and months, and haven't paid for some company to come and put down heavy chemicals that will render the lawn unfit for the toddler to play on...

It had actually only been about 10 days since the lawn was mowed, but it's been optimal grass & weed-growing weather. It was decent enough to do it on Sunday, but M was sick and my parents were visiting, so it didn't get done. And then it's been raining every day since, rendering the grass too wet to mow. But today, despite initial predictions of rainy doom, the sun came out around 11 and by 11:30 or so it was dry enough out there to mow. So out I went (whoo... double-workout today, since I'd already been to the gym) and spent an hour and a half in the lovely sunshine cutting the grass and then raking & sweeping up the clippings. (We have a mulching mower, but it does leave clippings on the sidewalk and driveway... and I refuse to just sweep them up against the lawn... they get all gross and fermenty.) If I had known that it was going to stay sunny (which it still is) rather than raining this afternoon like they had been predicting, I would have left the raking and sweeping for after dinner, because TRex loves to help with that (give her a broom to carry and she'll happily toddle along after you). But I didn't, and now it's all done. Yay! I left the backyard alone - it's mostly shaded and so the grass is shorter, and it's COVERED in violets, which are lovely.

We really do need to get a spreader and sow some weed-n-feed on the lawn to kill off the dandelions. Unfortunately the violets will be collateral damage in this process. We also need to get a weed-whacker so we can do the edges of the lawn and the areas around the stop sign, fire hydrant, and trees.
