In today's throwaway society (and I'm as guilty of this as the next person - this morning I pointed out to M that it was dumb to keep a broken plastic hangar when we can buy new ones 10 for a dollar), some of the services that used to be taken for granted are going away - the neighborhood tailor, the neighborhood shoe repair shop, etc.

But they're not all gone. )
And I walked out with a wonderful feeling.

So I took the plastic off of my 20 yards of lovely white linen this evening, in anticipation of cramming as much of it as possible into the washing machine.

It's torn. There's a 12" tear about 18" in, and a second, shorter one about a yard in (whatever the implement was went through two layers of the bolt).
view the carnage )
I'm about to send an e-mail (with the pictures) to fabrics-store and let them know what happened - I presume that the damage happened in shipping; the plastic was torn as well. I hope they're willing/able to do something about it. Their customer service has been good in the past, so I'm hopeful.
