I am on campus. I don't have to be here.
Despite having oodles of things that I need to do at home and academic work that can be done anywhere I have my computer and an Internet connection, I am on campus.
Despite the weather forecast looking like this, I am on campus.
Despite my soaking wet feet, I am on campus. (OK, they mostly happened on the walk from the parking lot to the nearest door, but that's beside the point.)
Despite my dead umbrella (it turned inside out six times in the two-block walk from the parking lot to the nearest door), I am on campus.
I don't have to be here, but I dragged myself out of the house. I could have turned my ass right around after dropping TRex off at daycare. I'm not even cranky about being here, despite my moist feet. I have a cup of the crap coffee from the machine in the faculty lounge, and I'm going to work on my survey. And then I'm going to go with M to get a flu shot (which was the real motivation for coming in today - because when we go to check out a synagogue tonight, I want to be feverish, achy, and crabby), and then I'm going to go to the library to see if they have some books that I want to look at.
