So my spring bursar's bill go paid late, and we got socked with a late fee. Which M paid $4.50 to pay online so we could be sure it go there in time to not incur MORE late fees. He did so on 4/22. Yesterday I got a threatening e-mail and letter saying that if it wasn't paid by the 11th, they would administratively withdraw me from school. I said, "M, did you pay that?" He said, "Yeah, a couple of weeks ago, online."
I just called the Bursar's office. The payment was posted on 4/22. And it takes 2 weeks for it to be processed, so it will show as paid sometime early next week.
WTF???
(But no, we will not be penalized for it - because we paid it before the deadline.)

Date: 2007-05-04 07:52 pm (UTC)My dad sends me a copy of his taxes to submit with my financial aid -- all but one page, which is a form to say you're working overseas. But UMass insists that they need that too. So I call and manage to get my dad, who says he'll send it right away; it takes a couple of weeks for mail to arrive from Taiwan. I go with the form, but they've lost the rest of the package, so I have to make more copies and re-submit it. They take it and put it in an in-basket against the wall behind them and say thank you. Time passes, I get a note that I'm late on my paperwork and there will be an extra fee if I'm still to be considered for aid, etc.
I go there and tell them that I already submitted the paperwork, and suggest they check the in-basket behind them... sure enough, it's still there. Then the woman says they still have to charge the late fee... at which point for the first time I put my foot down with people I don't know. After all, I submitted the work twice, even stuff they didn't need, and it wouldn't have been late if they hadn't forgotten to check that basket for a few weeks. She conceded the point, which was good since I didn't have $25 :P
*sigh*
Glad you got your problem solved!

Date: 2007-05-04 09:31 pm (UTC)You know, in your accounting of all you've done academically, you left out that you had a child and that life missed the turn at Albuquerque. Eight years really isn't that long a time, all things considered. For what it's worth... Go you!
