Travels with Toddlers
Nov. 21st, 2006 10:51 amWe're off to M's parents' place tomorrow morning (in fact, we'll already be there by this time tomorrow) so I'm getting ready to pack. Anyone who's ever traveled with a baby/toddler knows that you have to pack WAAAAAY more stuff than you ever thought you'd take anywhere with you. Our stuff needs have actually gone way down - now that TRex doesn't upchuck all over things on a daily basis, and now that we don't have to haul bottles and breast pumps and all that stuff (I cannot BELIEVE that this time last year I was just cutting down to 3 pumps a day... but that's an entirely different story). Anyway. Right now TRex has very specific wardrobe-related desires. Specifically, she wants to wear a hoodie with pockets EVERY DAY. If a garment has both pockets and a hood, she loves it. (Another aside: I need to get in the habit of checking her pockets before I do laundry. Yesterday I washed a wooden pepperoni. It came out fine.) So I'm laying out outfits for her for the trip, and making sure that each one involves a shirt that has EITHER a hood OR pockets (because we don't have enough with both). But it might be too warm to wear sweatshirts everyday, so I have to also put in a handful of long-sleeved t-shirts, too. And dress-up clothes for Thanksgiving dinner, and for the family pictures we're getting tomorrow night.
Oy.
It was really funny; yesterday she decided she wanted to wear her pink sweatpants, so I pulled out her "Mummy's Girl" shirt to go with it. It wasn't long before she'd added a duster-length sweater and her little brown T-strap shoes. And then we went out, so we plopped a purple parka on top of the whole thing. She looked very, very silly. I commented that she'd dressed herself to one of the other moms at toddler gym and she replied, "My kids don't even know that's an option. They wear what I put on them." *shrug* Yeah, her kids look a lot more put-together than mine does, but do I really care. Nah...
ETA: Today she picked out her kitty-cat halloween socks, so I added her "Monster Rocker" hoodie t-shirt and halloween pants to it. At first she wanted her brown shoes, but then when we left for daycare adn she saw me putting on my hiking boots, she decided she needed boots too. I asked her if she wanted her pink (moon) boots or her ladybug boots. She picked the bugs, and off we went.
