Oh good LORD. I'm flipping channels and I happened across My Super Sweet 16 on MTV. Could these children be MORE SPOILED? I caught the end of the ep with Janelle, a Cuban girl living in Miami who was having her Quinceanera and seriously, before I knew I was watching MTV, I was sure it was a wedding show. What else would explain the primadonna all in white with identically-dressed attendants hovering around her and gushing over how pretty she looks?

This one, about Carlysia, whose daddy is an R&B star, is more disgusting, because this little girl is greaking talking about herself int he third person and demanding a Mercedes convertible for her birthday and so on...

This is like the antithesis of my 16th birthday. My huge excitement was that I got contacts. Oh, baby. And I went to a New Year's party at (oh god) Darren's house which was a big deal because we'd just gotten back from 4 months in the Netherlands and I hadn't seen anybody since the end of August.

Alex and I caught an episode at the car place when we were waiting for the new tires. It was exceedingly spoiled and mean natured triplets, who were constantly competing with each other to be the most special and the most noticed. barf barf barf We agreed that it was one of the most hideous things we've ever seen on TV.

Oh, "Stage Moms and Dads" was worse. Much, much, much worse. Especially the insane woman who dragged her tone-deaf four year old about the kiddie beauty contest circuit, where the poor child was given a spray-tan so she wouldn't look too pale under the lights.

My 16th birthday party consisted of me and my relatives going out for dinner, and me getting money to buy books and classical records. "Boring" does not begin to describe it.

I think that's how quinceanera is supposed to go. At least, the kids I knew in LA treated it as just as significant as a wedding, and did it up as nicely as they could.

It's a little weird that quinceanera (which is celebrated when you turn fifteen) is on a show called "My Super Sweet 16". Hee hee hee.

My mom forgot my birthday when I turned sixteen. Oh the trauma oh.

I occasionally watch that show, when I want to feel disgusted by kids...

Of course I'm getting a new car, I deserve it!

Feh. I can't get my brain around that mindset, either.

My sixteenth? Six friends, I made the cake, and the highlight was my dad playing "Our House" on the bagpipes (highland, I think) and leading my friends around the block doing the Madness Walk while I frosted the cake.

I think we might have had pizza and soda, too.

I'm adding you because (apparently) you're [livejournal.com profile] greydora's sister.

I cannot believe how spoiled those stupid girls are. I also cannot believe I watch that show sometimes. But it sucks you in. Their parents spend tens of thousands of dollars on these parties! As much as people spend on their weddings--possibly even more than that. You know, I don't even remember what happened on my 16th birthday. That's how special it was.

Most of the girls on that show are unpleasant screeching haglets. When you meet their mothers, you understand how they got that way. I wonder if they even know the only reason they have friends is that their parents are rich. I wonder if they CARE.

1) you are correct as to my family connections.
2) Yeah, I'm pretty sure many of those parties cost way more than my wedding did.
