We are insane, as usual...

jenakaekat's question about what people are doing for the holiday weekend made me realize just how nutso we are...

Tomorrow C&A are coming to visit. We haven't seen them since L&O's wedding in April of 2004; before that the last time we'd seen them was J&M's wedding in ... Feb. 2002 or 2003, I can't remember which. Prior to THAT I think the last time M saw them was at our wedding, although I saw them when I was in Mpls for a conference in October 2001. So anyway. They're going to be at C's parents' place for Christmas and are willing to haul all the way out here to hang out for the afternoon/evening. Yay! This does mean, however, that we have to get much of our packing and everything done before they arrive, because...

Saturday we're on an 8 am flight to LGA. This means we'll have to leave for the airport no later than 6, and probably more like 5:30 (thank goodness for living 15 minutes from the airport...). We land at 9:40 (how can it possibly take almost two hours to fly from Buffalo to La Guardia?) and begin the surely-entertaining process of finding a cab to get to Manhattan. Thankfully the passenger-number restrictions on cars heading below 96th street are only 5 - 11 am on weekdays. If for some bizarre reason they are keeping less-than-fully-loaded cars out, we'll just have them drop us at 96th street and then make some intrepid family members walk up and help us carry stuff. It's only 6 blocks.

So we're in NYC Saturday - Tuesday. Monday night we're going to see the Sweeney Todd revival (sooooo excited!), again, assuming we can get cabs (yes, two, becasue there are many of us going) to take us down there. I don't think we'll be brave enough to try to walk it, but who knows. Other than that, we'll probably just stick to places we can walk to. Hopefully including the traditional family trip to Zabar's.

Tuesday mid-afternoon we fly back to Buffalo. Unpack, light Hanukkah candles, do some laundry. Wednesday morning TRex goes for her monthly dose of Synagis, and then M's parents arrive at about 1 that afternoon. Open Hanukkah gifts with them, repack, etc. Thursday we get up and drive to Toronto. J&J are going to be driving there from Punxsy, which we think will require them to drive through Buffalo, so I don't know if we're going to hang around here until they come through and then caravan, or what.

We're in Toronto Thursday - Sunday. I don't know that we have any actual plans as of yet; I think we're planning to go to the ROM. Other than that... no clue. Sunday we drive back down here, put M's parents on a plane back to Baltimore, and then collapse.

Yeah, we've definitely lost our everlovin' minds. But hey, at least this year New Year's doesn't involve international flights! (I almost said it doesn't involve international travel, but I think cranky_dragon would probably beg to differ with me on that one...).

Note: the transit strike settled, at least for now, so you shouldn't have a problem. And if two adults and an infant don't count as a "full cab," there is no justice in this world.

Safe journey, and if you can at all manage it, definitely go to the Prague exhibit at the Met. It's extraordinary.
