Project: Basement Recovery

Step 1: Get as much water out of the basement as possible. Largely accomplished by M and our lovely new ShopVac. (One of my parents' friends said that they got a shopvac when the washing machine hose broke while they were out of the house ... so it just kept running... and running... and running...)
Step 2: Get moving on new carpet. We went shopping yesterday (and got overwhelmed three carpet racks into Home Depot, the first store we went to), slept on it, and made an appointment for the nice Home Despot guys to come and measure the basement next Monday afternoon. Once we'd decided on the type of carpet we wanted (a nice dense medium pile) M turned color selection over to me. Oy. I went with a steely grey for the family room (becasue there's some grey/blue in the tiles on the bar) and a lightish olivey green for the rest of the space (hallway, stairs, laundry room). That'll be nice for a touch of color in an otherwise fairly drab space (right now it's tan carpet and white walls) and it'll be a good color for when we turn the laundry room into TRex's playroom once she's big enough to be put in a playroom by herself.
Step 3: Get as much stuff out of the basement as possible, in hopes of not having to pay Home Depot to move furniture on top of paying to have them rip out the old carpet (which actually isn't that expensive - they're running a 10% off deal right now, which is off of both carpet and labor, which in the end makes the whole thing cost roughly what the carpet would have not on sale). This meant hauling the recliner, the papasaan chair, all of TRex's toys, the pack-n-play, the coffee table, and (and this is the biggie), the TV upstairs. We managed to do it without any near drops, although we did set it down on my fingers when we got to the top of the stairs.
Step 4: Wait for the new carpet to be installed.
Step 5: Move all of the aforementioned stuff BACK downstairs.
