I'm not sure exactly when That 70s Show jumped the shark (probably about when Eric and Donna got engaged), but last night one of my favorite episodes EVER was on, the one that reminded me that when that show was really firing on all cylinders, it was HILARIOUS. The episode being, of course, the one where Bob sends Donna to Catholic school, which I have since learned was entitled "I Can't Quit You Babe". Because really, you can't have too many Catholic schoolgirl jokes in one episode.

Incidentally, the last episode, which I will freely admit to watching, was pretty good. Eric and Kelso came back (if the show didn't jump the shark when he & Donna got engaged, it DEFINITELY did when Topher Grace the Ashton Kutcher left), it was New Year's Eve 1979. The show ended with Eric saying "Last one upstairs has to call Red a dumbass." Everyone scrambles to get up the stairs; Kelso loses. The last action you see is Kelso grabbing the "stupid helmet" as he runs up the stairs and then you hear everyone counting down to the New Year. I thought it was quite appropriate.

the kitchen now
(the cabinet on the left-hand wall is a little pressboard & laminate number that we bought to act as a phone stand, since that's where the jack is - and since that's one of THREE phone jacks in the entire house (and the only one on the first floor), the DSL and wireless ahve to live there. the cabinet on the top wall under the window is this crappy shelving unit that was in our apartment in Amherst when we moved in there - it currently holds the microwave, dustbuster, and a pile of TRex's toys. Oh, and the angled edge of the corner cabinet actually reaches the walls so that it's just a non-square corner.)

I paced it off yesterday and this version is much closer to the actual size of the kitchen. But you get the idea... not enough cabinet space, and the damn fridge in front of the damn window!

I still blame [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] for wasting my time. But in a good way.

My parents are constantly sending me clippings from the hometown newspaper. Usually it's the engagement/wedding announcements of people I went to high school with, etc. Today I got one of those thin envelopes that I know will have newspaper clippings in them. Instead of wedding announcements, though, the headline of the article is "Gordon named principal".

Uwe Gordon was one of my all-time favorite teachers - I was in his classes for 8th grade civics and 9th grade geography & Oklahoma History. It's partially his fault that I'm a Cubs fan. It's certainly his fault that I'm into the social sciences. He had moved into administration (first as disciplinarian at our junior high, and then into principal & superintended positions in some of the small surrounding districts) by the time I graduated from high school. And now the "new" principal who was hired my junior or senior year of high school is retiring, and Mr. Gordon has gotten the job.

So, y'know, hooray!

I spam because I love, seriously. But I'm watching Roseanne (a guilty pleasure) and not only does this episode feature Gelnn Quinn as Mark (Becky's husband), it also has Danny Masterson (aka, Hyde from That 70s Show) as Darlene's new boyfriend Jimmy. And M's ninja-like voice-recognition powers are rubbing off on me - because 17-year-old DM looks nothing like 29-year-old DM. But DAMN!
