Last night I sewed the shoulder seams and put on the neckline facings.  The shoulder seams are reinforced with seam tape to keep them from stretching; the neckline relies on the facings to keep them from stretching.  If it's a problem, I'll be able to go back in and apply seam tape there as well.  Unlike the other seams on the dress so far, I did these with a straight stitch. The combination of the two (straight and pretend overlock) may come back to bite me later if my seam allowances don't match up.  But I have faith that I'll be able to make it work.  :^D

Anyway,
Black Dress - Back
Dress back, draped and pinned on the dressform.

Black Dress - back detail
Back detail - that's the fiddly join in the middle.  It's kind of dented in and lying funny because that's where the gap between the plates of the form is.

Black Dress - Front
The front, draped & pinned.  The dress form is currently bigger than me, but I'm too lazy to set it since I'm not using it for fitting.

Black Dress - Detail of Gathering
Gathering detail, just because I like the bright colors against the black background.

Diane von Furstenberg has been making the wrap dress work for upwards of 40 years. There's gotta be a reason for it - and that reason is that it's a style that works for every body. I mean, hello. I would TOTALLY wear this dress today, and it's older than I am. Dress it up or dress it down(ish), it works.

Whether you're slender or plus-size, the neckline and the nip in at the waist define the figure. You can adjust the coverage to suit your bustline. And the drape of the skirt combined with the enhanced waist can cammo the hips and butt.

I've been watching too much "What Not To Wear."
